Nigerian billionaire businessman and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as “visionary leadership” in tackling perennial flooding and delivering transformative infrastructure projects across Nigeria.
In an open letter titled “Appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR”, shared by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via 𝕏 on Wednesday, Dangote praised Tinubu’s role in the development of Eko Atlantic City, as well as the commencement of nationwide superhighway projects.
Referencing the Bar Beach Land Reclamation Project, the billionaire industrialist said residents of Victoria Island, Lagos, had greatly benefited from the president’s intervention in protecting the area from coastal erosion.
“Your Excellency, this success story… is amongst your many legacies, and those of us who live in Victoria Island are much better off for it,” Dangote wrote.
He noted that the 8.5km sea wall, also known as the Great Wall of Lagos, has not only stemmed ocean surges but also reclaimed 1,000 hectares of land now being used for residential, business, and leisure purposes.
Dangote commended the administration’s consistent efforts to resolve flooding issues along Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Bishop Oluwole Street, Amodu Ojikutu Street, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, and Karimu Kotun Street, among others.
Beyond flood control, Dangote also praised Tinubu for launching major national infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway.
“The Sokoto-Badagry highway represents a resurrection of a 48-year-old project,” he stated, adding that both projects are being executed by “the first-rate construction and civil engineering firm, Hitech Construction Company Limited.”
Dangote drew parallels between Nigeria’s land reclamation efforts and similar feats in Zeeland, Netherlands, where waterlogged land was transformed into viable space for agriculture and urban settlement.
The Dangote Group also used the opportunity to express condolences to victims of the recent flooding in Kerr County, Texas, where over 100 lives were reportedly lost.
Dangote noted the coincidence between the disaster and Nigeria’s climate mitigation efforts, which he described as “aligned with global best practices in water management and urban planning.”
“This ethos resonates in the Bar Beach project, for which I salute you!” he wrote.
Presidency Reacts
Reacting to the billionaire’s commendation, Bayo Onanuga described the letter as “an honest and thoughtful assessment” of President Tinubu’s performance.
“It sharply contrasts with the opposition’s claim that the president has achieved nothing in the last two years,” Onanuga noted.
