[BREAKING] #EndBadGovernance Protesters: DSS Officials Raid Kano FM Stations To Stop Press Conference

DSS5 Officials

Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) have been going about FM stations in Kano to stop journalists from reporting or covering press conferences conducted by the parents of victims of police brutality during the #EndBadGovernance protests.

Naijaonpoint recalls that these protests, which occurred in August 2024, were aimed at highlighting the difficulties faced by Nigerians, including poor governance, economic challenges, and other significant issues.

The supposed peaceful protests, however, were hijacked by hoodlums who took advantage of them to loot and cause damage to government and private properties.

According to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, January 22, reports revealed that DSS operatives have been attempting to obtain the addresses of the parents and the details of the individuals who organized the press conference.

It was gathered that at a recently organized press conference, families of those who lost their lives in the #EndBadGovernance protests called on the government and police authorities to acknowledge their responsibility for the tragic loss of innocent lives and to ensure justice and compensation.

The press conference, organized by the Victims Support Initiative Nigeria (VSIN), took place on Monday in Kano, where grieving families recounted their experiences and demanded accountability for what they described as reckless conduct by law enforcement during the protests.

One of the journalists visited by the security personnel said, “They came to our radio station because on Monday we carried the story about the grievances of the parents of those killed by the police during the August protest.

“They were asking us about the organisers of the press conference and the details of the parents who spoke at the press conference.”

At the press conference, Malam Yahya Ibrahim, whose son lost his life during the protest, called upon President Bola Tinubu to initiate an independent and unbiased investigation into the deaths of their children.

“Some of our sons and daughters were not even part of the protest but were killed because of excessive force used by the police. We are ready to provide all the information and evidence,” the media platform quoted the individual saying.
