FG has made a crucial appointment.

 

NaijaOnPoint Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has named Professor Mathew Adamu as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.

In a statement issued by the institution’s Acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Roseline O. Adakayi, Adamu will serve in the role for three months, effective Monday, August 11, 2025. He takes over from Professor Patricia Manko Lar, who was appointed in February 2025 for a six-month acting tenure.

According to the statement, Professor Lar’s leadership brought academic and administrative stability, while she also oversaw the commencement of the selection process for a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The new Acting Vice-Chancellor is expected to work closely with the University’s Governing Council, chaired by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, to complete the appointment process for a substantive VC in line with statutory provisions.

The university community expressed appreciation to Professor Lar for her “dedicated service, visionary leadership, and commitment to institutional progress,” while wishing Professor Adamu a successful transition period.

Before his appointment, Professor Adamu was with the Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. He is a fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria and a member of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM).

Adamu becomes the second Acting Vice-Chancellor appointed by the Federal Government since the removal of Professor Aisha Maikudi in February this year.
