The Federal Government has announced the immediate shutdown of 41 Federal Unity Colleges across several regions of the country.

This directive came on Friday following fresh worries about the safety of students and staff.

The Ministry of Education issued the order in a circular dated November 21, 2025.

Officials said the decision became necessary after new intelligence reports pointed to security risks around some campuses.

According to the ministry, the closure affects schools located in the North-West, North-East, North-Central, and a few states in the South.

Principals of the listed institutions were instructed to act at once and clear their school communities.

The circular, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Abdulkadir, conveyed the minister’s approval.

It noted that the move followed “recent security challenges” and the need to prevent any incident that could endanger students.

The statement added that all heads of affected colleges must comply fully with the directive.

The ministry also urged parents to monitor further updates as the situation develops.

Security agencies have not released further details, but government officials say the priority is to prevent any disruption during the ongoing school term.

However, there is no timeline yet for reopening.

Recall POLITICS NIGERIA had earlier reported rising concerns over school safety in parts of the North following fresh attacks on rural communities.

This move by the FG comes on the back of rising violence in schools and communities. Just days ago, 25 girls were abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, and the school’s vice principal was killed.

However, the National Orientation Agency has condemned the incident, urging stronger security for schools and institutions.
