Abubakar Malami, a former attorney general of the federation (AGF) and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, will remain in Kuje Prison until January 7 pending the determination of their bail applications.

Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order on Friday after hearing arguments for and against the bail motions filed by Malami and his son, who are standing trial over a N9 billion money laundering allegation.

Hajia Bashir Asabe, an employee of Ramadiya Property Limited, and co-defendant in the case, is also to remain in custody until the same date.

Justice Nwite explained that, as a vacation judge, he has several other matters to decide and would therefore not be able to deliver a ruling on the bail applications before January 7.

Joseph Daudu, SAN, argued the bail applications on behalf of the three defendants.

Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, opposed the motions, representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami, his son and Hajia Asabe had earlier pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against them by the EFCC on behalf of the federal government.
