More than 100 people described as suspected “imported” voters have reportedly been arrested in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The individuals, who were allegedly brought into the state to participate in the poll, were reportedly found with newly issued Permanent Voter Cards.
According to reports, the group was allegedly accommodated at the residence of an Accord Party member, identified as Hon. Abiola Ibrahim.
The arrests reportedly occurred as political parties and security agencies intensified scrutiny of electoral activities across the state on election day.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged movement of the voters into Osun, including who facilitated their arrival and the purpose of the new PVCs, were not immediately clear.
It was also unclear at the time of filing this report which security agency carried out the arrests or whether the suspects had been formally charged.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in the state, with the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, seeking re-election against candidates from the APC and other political parties.
