BREAKING: Police Announce Burial Arrangements For Ex-IGP Solomon Arase [See Details]

The Nigeria Police Force has released the burial arrangements for former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who passed on August 31, 2025.

Arase, the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, was remembered by the Force as a leader who served with “dedication and honour,” and would be celebrated for his “exemplary and innovative leadership, philanthropy and commitment to police reforms.”

Programme of events

According to the schedule released on Wednesday, September 17, by the force via its official social media pages, a Day of Tribute will be held on Wednesday, September 24, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.

A Requiem Mass will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, September 26.

The Lying in State is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at House 9, Golfview Estate, Linus Nkachukwu Close, Maitama, Abuja.

The Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 3, at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State, with a Police Parade Party leading the body into the church.

A private interment will be held the same afternoon at his residence in GRA, Benin City.

Finally, a Thanksgiving Mass will be conducted on Sunday, October 5, at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City.

Arase, who retired in 2016, is widely remembered for his reforms in community policing, intelligence-led operations, and welfare improvements for officers.

The Police said his passing marked the end of a distinguished era of service to the Force and the nation.
