President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the Presidential Villa in Abuja earlier today in a move that has triggered renewed political interest amid growing tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Makinde arrived at the Villa on Thursday, with sources confirming he was received for a private engagement inside the seat of power. His visit comes at a time the PDP is battling internal divisions, with cracks widening between different blocs linked to key power brokers across the country including the camp associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Although details of the discussion were not made public, the timing of Makinde’s audience with Tinubu has raised fresh questions about possible behind-the-scenes political recalculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, a second-term PDP governor, has remained one of the most influential voices within the opposition in recent months, particularly after he hinted at a possible presidential ambition. During a recent media interaction in Ibadan, the Oyo governor revisited his involvement in the 2023 presidential race and admitted he now regrets supporting Tinubu.
He said the outcome of the election and what followed had fallen short of what Nigerians expected, stressing that his support did not produce the result he had hoped for. This is the first time Muftwang is meeting with President Tinubu since his defection to APC.
