President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction on the impressive achievements recorded by the Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.

Speaking Friday at the palace of the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the President noted that within the context of scarce resources and prevailing economic reality, the Kaduna State government has done well for the people.

‘‘As they say in Hausa ‘Gani ya Kori ji (seeing is believing),’’ he said in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

The President, who is on a four-day official visit to the State, had on Thursday commissioned projects in Kafanchan and Kaduna metropolis in the State.

On Friday in Zaria, at the northern senatorial district of Kaduna, the President inaugurated the remodeled Sabon Gari market with 3,400 shops; the Circular road with two spurs on River road and Kufena road; and the Queen Elizabeth way.

At the Sabon-Gari market, President Buhari, while appreciating the governor for rebuilding one of the oldest markets in the State and paying compensation of over N300 million to traders,   jocularly said he would consider opening a consultancy service in the market, where a ‘‘Presidential Block’’ is named after him.

In his remarks, Governor El-Rufai recalled that in August 2019, the President was in Zaria to commission Phase 2 of the Zaria water project, providing a basic amenity that was not available for residents of Zaria for over 30 years.

‘‘Our State is an agricultural State and this Emirate is associated with farming. We know Mr President’s passion for agriculture and we are grateful you appointed a son of the State to head the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

‘‘We look forward to more agricultural interventions in the State,’’ the Governor said, pledging that the people of Kaduna and their elected representatives will continue to stand by the principles and values associated with the President: honesty, integrity and commitment to public service.

The Emir of Zazzau thanked the President for the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Health in providing a functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at Ahamdu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, in line with the desire of the people of Zazzau.

‘‘Today our people don’t have to travel to Kano, Sokoto or Abuja for medical screening with MRI machine,’’ he said.

The first class traditional ruler commended Governor El-Rufai for the Urban Renewal Projects embarked upon by his administration, acknowledging that the Emir of Zazzau’s Palace which has been in existence for centuries, was a major beneficiary of the projects.

‘‘We will be grateful if Mr President will thank and bless our Governor for the gigantic legacy project ongoing in the Place. Equally, Zaria people have benefitted in other areas like road construction and bridges which have expanded road networks as well as decongested traffic significantly,’’ he said.

On security, the Emir, while acknowledging the efforts of the government, solicited for more intervention by the Federal Government in the area, noting that Zaria emirate is a gateway to all the States in the North West as well neighbouring Niger Republic.

MURIC condemns killing of Northern woman, her four children in Anambra

The Muslim Rights Concern has condemned the killing of an Hausa woman along with her four children in Anambra State on Sunday.

MURIC’s condemnation came on Tuesday through a statement issued by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads: “A pregnant Hausa woman was brutally murdered along with her three children in Anambra State on Sunday, 22nd May, 2022. (https://www.intelregion.com/news/ipob-allegedly-murder-muslim-family-of-four-including-a-pregnant-woman-in-anambra/)

“We strongly condemn this killing. It is brutish, horrendous and barbaric. No family deserves to be wiped out in this manner.

“We call on the security agencies to smoke out the killers and bring them to justice. At the same time, we ask all men of conscience to speak up and condemn this killing.

“In particular, we ask the British Embassy in Nigeria and other Western sources to condemn this ugly incident with the same vehemence that they condemned other killings. In the same vein, we charge all social critics who have condemned other killings to speak up against this latest brutality. We call for fairness in comments on developments in Nigeria. Selective condemnation of evil cannot bring peace either to Nigeria or to the world at large.

“We remind observers that our organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has never been selective in its assessments. We were the first to condemn the killing of Deborah Samuel. We believe in fairness, equal rights and justice. To us, life is sacred, whether it is that of a Christian, a Muslim or a traditionalist.

“In the meantime we appeal to Northerners not to retaliate. Vengeance will only ignite a cycle of violence. Nigeria needs peace at this crucial time. Therefore, nobody should embark on reprisal killing. It will only compound the problem.”

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday said the State Government will go ahead with its proposed ban on motorcycles, also known as Okada, on highways and six local governments and nine Local Council Development Areas from June 1, 2022.

Sanwo-Olu restated the position of the state government on Tuesday when he spoke with newsmen in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said security services and the Lagos State Government are on the same page in respect to banning of the motorcycles in the selected areas of the State and therefore they will be going ahead with the plans.

He spoke after the State Security Meeting, held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, which was attended by heads of security services in the State.

The Governor said his administration in conjunction with security agencies will ensure that the security architecture of the state is not compromised in any way so that Lagos residents will continue to live their lives and do their business without any fear or favour.

He said: “The security meeting gives us an opportunity for us to review the recent pronouncement on the future banning of Okada (motorcycles) in some selected local governments and LCDAs.

“We are able to put strategies in place.

“All of us were able to identify a lot of other things we need to do to embark on advocacy and ensure that we communicate effectively and efficiently to citizens.

“And that is why you see us giving out handbills in all of the major languages that we have in the country.

“There is a radio jingle being sent out to also communicate to people.

“I am also aware that there is a plan for advocacy on television stations as well.

“It is a people driven initiative that we all agreed to live and to comport ourselves in similar manner. And we know what has been the effect of this.

“So, I am happy that all of us, the security operatives and government are on the same page with this and we will also be going ahead with our plans.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu also assured all political parties in the State of adequate security in the ongoing delegates and primary elections ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He said: “The other thing that we discussed for public knowledge is around ensuring that the ongoing primaries and delegates elections that are happening in different parts of the state by different political parties have sufficient security coverage.

“We enjoin that various political parties should approach the Lagos State Police Command to give them adequate security at various venues where they are conducting their various delegate and primary elections for various positions people are vying for.

“It is purely to ensure that there are no gaps and that the security architecture of the state is not compromised in any way and our citizens can continue to live their lives and do their business without any fear or favour.”
