Buhari Receives South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, at the State House, Abuja.
President Ramaphosa who is on a state visit on arrival inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Brigade of Guards of the Nigerian Army.
He is presently holding talks with his host, President Buhari, on bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Africa.
The two presidents are expected to address a joint press conference at the forecourt of the State House, Abuja, at the end of the talks.

Senate passes enabling bill to establish Federal University in Taraba State

The Senate has passed a bill to provide a legal framework for the establishment of the Federal Univerity, Wukari, Taraba State.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Senate President (Press) Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, stated that bill was passed Tuesday, after the upper chamber considered a report by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND.

Senator Sandy Onuh, in a presentation on behalf of the Committee Chairman, Ahmad Babba Kaita, recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the establishment of nine universities across the six geo-political zones, which included the Federal University, Wukari.

According to the lawmaker, the bill to establish the university seeks to develop and offer academic and professional teaching and research programmes leading to the award of first degrees, post-graduate degrees and diplomas.

He added that the presence of the university would “assist the host communities in increasing planning, production and processing; in addition to adaptive, technical, maintenance, developmental and productive skills in both social and management sciences as conventional university in Nigeria.

Buhari commiserates with Jamaica’s envoy on father’s death

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Amb. Maureen Tamuno, over the passing of her father, and family’s patriarch, Elder Clement Chepaka.

The President in a statement signed Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina noted that Chepaka 93, would be sorely missed for his charity, kindness and leadership.

Buhari sympathized with family, friends and associates of the departed, urging them to find solace in his good works, especially at the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Broadcast, where he worked for many years as a producer and broadcaster.

President Buhari prayed that the soul of Elder Chepaka will find eternal rest in the Lord.
