Buhari to attend EXPO 2020 Dubai

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Wednesday to attend EXPO 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, this in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Adesina, EXPO 2020 Dubai, with the theme, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, creates the environment for Nigeria to join over 190 countries to forge true and meaningful partnerships “to build a better future for everyone.’’

He said the Expo would provide another opportunity for the Nigerian delegation to highlight significant strides in the economy in the last six years as a basis for making the country an important destination for foreign direct investment.

Aside the scheduled tour of the Nigerian Pavilion at the Expo on Friday, Nigeria’s National Day at the show, the president would also receive in audience prospective investors.

Adesina said the Nigerian leader would also meet with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

“On Saturday, President Buhari will be the Special Guest of Honour at the special Trade and Investment Forum themed: Unveiling Investment Opportunities in Nigeria.

“It is put together to mark Nigeria’s presence at the gathering by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment,’’ he added.

The President, according to the media aide, will be accompanied on the trip by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo; Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed; Defence, retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi.

Adesina said other ministers on the entourage are Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika; and Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Abubakar.

The rest are: Ministers of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire; Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami; Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite; Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Maryam Katagum.

The president’s delegation also includes the National Security Adviser, retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ahmed Rufai and the Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

President Buhari is expected back in Abuja on Dec. 5, 2021.

Gov. Akeredolu donates relief materials to Ose community attack

Ondo State Government Friday donated relief materials to victims of gunmen attack in Molege community in Ose Local Government area of the state.

 

The State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu at the event in Akure, the State’s capital said the relief materials were to cushion the effect of the attack on the victims.

Akeredolu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Gbenga Akingbasote, said that the state government would continue to identify with them.

 

He urged the Ose Local Government Chairman, Dennis Adekunle, who received the materials on behalf of the victims, to ensure that the materials were distributed to the intended people.

Akeredolu noted that security of lives and property as well as welfare of the people of the state was his priority.

 

The LG boss appreciated the governor for the gesture and the urgent attention given to the matter when it happened.

Adekunle stressed that the gesture showed that the governor is a man of his words and has fulfilled the promise made during his visit to the community after the attack.

 

“This is a pointer that our’ talk and do governor’ means business,” Adekunle said.

Some of the relief materials distributed include; food items, mattresses, diapers, mosquito net among others.

 

Recall that at least three people were reportedly shot dead by gunmen who invaded the community on January 6. NAN

Adamawa trains over 1,000 unemployed graduates on ICT

The Adamawa Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWACA), says it has trained over 1,000 unemployed graduates on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 

Head of PAWACA Aisha Bello, made this known while reeling out the scorecard of the agency in 2021 Friday in Yola, the State’s capital.

Bello said that the agency achieved over 70 per cent of its target in the year under review.

“In 2021, the agency achieved almost 70 per cent of its target, which included training and poverty reduction among people of the state.

“So far, we have enrolled 15,820 beneficiaries under the Capital Development programme and proposed additional 3,000 women and youths for ICT transformation.

“About 1,000 unemployed universities and polytechnics graduates drawn across the 21 local government areas of the state benefited from the ICT training,” Bello said.

 

According to her, some physically challenged persons have also been trained in various skills acquisition ranging from trade, carpentry and farming to make them self-reliant.

Bello, however, expressed concern on the attitude of some trainees who failed to establish their own businesses after receiving support from the state government.

 

She said: “I am calling on people of the state to support the effort of the agency and the state government in its bud to eradicate poverty among people of the state.’’   NAN
