Speaking on January 23, 2026, Bwala emphasized that party rules recognize governors as the top APC leaders in their states, making Fubara the rightful head of Rivers APC. He dismissed claims that former governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s cabinet status gives him undue influence, stating such perks should not undermine Fubara’s authority.

“We’ve heard complaints that Wike enjoys certain benefits as a cabinet member,” Bwala said, “but Governor Fubara must be allowed to perform without interference.” He warned that challenging Fubara’s leadership risks deepening instability in Rivers politics.
