The Confederation of Africa (CAF) has postponed the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from 2024 to August 2025.
This delay allows for further enhancements to the infrastructure and facilities that are crucial for making the 2024 CHAN a success, according to a statement on CAF’s official website.
Significant progress has been made across all three host countries, with ongoing construction and upgrades to stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities.
However, CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who have been closely observing developments on the ground, have determined that additional time is needed to meet the rigorous standards required for a championship of this magnitude.
The draw for the tournament will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi Time, with the exact dates for the tournament’s commencement in August 2025 to be announced by CAF at a later date.
Meanwhile, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Coach Augustine Eguavoen, has arrived at the Super Eagles B camp alongside the new Head Coach, Éric Chelle, and his agent, Sidibe Abraham Brehima. The group travelled from Abuja to Lagos and then to the Remo Stars’ Sports Institute in Ogun State.
At the unveiling of Coach Chelle, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau emphasized that Chelle will serve in a supervisory role, while the coaching trio of Daniel Ogunmodede, Fidelis Ilechukwu, and Olatunji Baruwa, who successfully led the team to qualification, will oversee the team’s preparations for the tournament.
