Italian Serie A club Cagliari are plotting a last-minute bid for Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers before the close of the winter transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
There have been a lot of speculations about Dessers’ future in recent months. Last summer, he was linked with a transfer away from Glasgow following the constant criticism he got from Rangers fans for missing too many chances. Nonetheless, the links failed to materialise.
The 30-year-old Super Eagles striker started this season as the first-choice striker at Rangers. But he lost his place to Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane, who joined the club from FAR Rabat last summer.
Since the turn of the year, there have been speculations that Dessers could leave the Gers in this transfer window. Cagliari, Saint Etienne, Leganes, Monza, and Empoli have been linked with the former Genk star. But nothing serious has emerged yet.
In a new development, per The Scottish Sun, Cagliari are looking to step up their attempt to get Dessers. This is as their striker Gianluca Lapadula completed a transfer to Spezia on Friday, thus making it compulsory that they sign a replacement.
Dessers will come with a truckload of experience, as he has played in Italy before. Also, Cagliari won’t need to break the bank to sign the 30-year-old.
The Nigerian striker is a proven goalscorer with 151 goals, so he would add some quality to a Cagliari side that has managed just 23 goals in the Serie A this season.
However, Cagliari would have to move fast, as the winter transfer window in Italy will close on February 2.
