Cashier docked for alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds

A cashier, Edith Adotse, was on Thursday docked in a Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja for allegedly misappropriating N300,000 belonging to a cooperative society.

The cashier with Assurance Thrift and Credit Cooperative, Abuja was dragged to the court by the Nigeria Police.

Adopts was charged with criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.

She however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that Angela Korunjoh, a colleague of the defendant, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on March 20.

Osho said the defendant dishonestly converted N300,000 realised from customers to her own personal use without the consent of the cooperative.

He said the offence contravened sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Ishaq Hassan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.

Hassan added that N100,000 must be deposited immediately by the defendant and adjourned the case until May 1, 2023 for hearing.
