The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has linked Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to the breakdown of family values, stressing that the solution to the crisis lies in rebuilding the home front.
Naijaonpoint reports that Musa spoke on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of Exercise Haske Biyu held at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna.
According to him, insecurity has thrived in the country because many homes no longer instil core values in their children.
“The family is the bedrock of every community. Without the family, there can’t be a good community,” he said.
“What we have realised is that because the family system is failing, insecurity is growing, which means if we address the family issues, insecurity will go down.”
The exercise, which brought together military and civilian participants, focused on family values, civic responsibilities, and moral resilience as critical tools in tackling security challenges facing Nigeria and other nations.
Musa stressed that parents and guardians must deliberately teach discipline, respect, and love, insisting that these virtues were crucial in raising responsible citizens.
He noted that no matter the weapons or strategies deployed by the armed forces, without morally upright citizens, insecurity would continue to fester.
