Huawei’s CEO, Richard Yu, said that the Huawei Mate 70 is a 100% made in China phone. In other words, he said that all of its components have been made in China. He said that in front of an audience at the Baoan Middle School in Shenzhen, China.
The Huawei Mate 70 is a 100% made in China smartphone, says the company’s CEO
Huawei basically managed to achieve a 100% domestic production of chips, which points to a true autonomy of the semiconductor industry in China. As a reminder, the Huawei Mate 70 launched recently, and it includes the Kirin 9020 SoC.
That processor is manufactured by SMIC, which is a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer that works closely with Huawei. With that being said, some of you are likely wondering if the Huawei Mate 70 will make its way to global markets.
Huawei already scheduled an event for December 12, which will be hosted in Dubai. During that event, the company will announce the Huawei Mate X6 for global markets, its new flagship foldable smartphone.
The Huawei Mate 70 was not mentioned in Huawei’s promo materials, not at all. We’re not really expecting it to be presented during said event. There’s always a chance Huawei will surprise us, though, no matter how unlikely it is to happen.
The Huawei Mate 70 probably won’t arrive to global markets
Considering that the Huawei Mate 70 likely won’t be a part of this event, we doubt it will arrive to global markets at all. The Huawei Pura 80 series, which is expected to arrive next year, will likely make its way to global markets, though.
It is also worth noting that both of these phones ship with HarmonyOS NEXT in China. They’re the first phones that come with Huawei’s new homegrown OS, which is completely free of Android. It’s not based on Google’s OS.
It remains to be seen what will happen with global models, but we’re guessing HarmonyOS (Android based) will be included on the global Huawei Mate X6, not HarmonyOS NEXT.
