The Marvel Cinematic Universe is closer than ever to having Earth’s Mightiest Heroes back together as Avengers: Doomsday will be bringing the iconic team in 2026. As the MCU timeline has just seen the formation of the New Avengers in Thunderbolts* earlier this year, Phase 6 will also have the more traditional group coming together as they deal with the biggest threat to the multiverse.
During a new interview with Deadline, Channing Tatum, who is set to return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, opened up more about the expectations for the team-up film. The MCU star began with, “Look, everyone in the world is going to see this movie.” He elaborated with, “It’s hard to say this because, I mean, you hear these things and go, ‘Of course’. But they’ve topped themselves every time.”
According to Tatum, “This will be the biggest movie of next year and maybe even the next 10 years.” The actor stressed that “the scope of it, what they’re trying to do, what the Russos have cooked up – when I read it, I was just like, ‘How are they going to do this?'” Avengers: Doomsday will mark the return of Anthony and Joe Russo since they completed Avengers: Endgame.
The Roofman lead finished his response by teasing the big action pieces he got to do in the 2026 entry. According to the 45-year-old actor, “It was an Everest of a mountain to climb. I am still in awe. I do so much action in this movie, but that was just a small part.”
Tatum’s Gambit isn’t the only X-Men hero who is part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, as several of the original stars from the Fox-Marvel era are set to reprise their roles. Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen are set to be reunited as Professor X and Magneto, as they brought the two iconic mutants to life in the early 2000s.
The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will finally be shown to the world in December 2025, which will ideally highlight some of the scope that Tatum is teasing in his latest interview. The cast finished filming on September 19, 2025, and while it’s unclear how many of the actors will be back in 2027, the Russo brothers will be helming Avengers: Secret Wars.
The next theatrical installment for the MCU will be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for July 31, 2026. Marvel Studios has scheduled Avengers: Doomsday to open in theaters on December 18, 2026.
