Earlier this week, head coach Thomas Tuchel revealed that Ben Chilwell, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku had all returned positive tests.

Kai Havertz also felt unwell in the build-up to Thursday’s game with Everton, but Tuchel revealed on Friday that the forward had since tested negative.

However, according to Instagram account Cfcnewspage, two more players have been ruled out of the meeting at Molineux.

As it stands, it remains unknown which players have tested positive, but they will join a mounting injury list for Tuchel.

When quizzed on whether upcoming Premier League matches should be postponed, the German insisted that there was no right or wrong answer.

As it stands, only four fixtures remain of the 10 that were scheduled for this weekend.

Newcastle move for deadly Chris Wood partner with £42m striker ready to join

Newcastle are striving to bolster their firepower even further after ramping up their efforts to land Atalanta marksman, Duvan Zapata, per a report.

The Magpies have already landed former Burnley forward Chris Wood this month. The New Zealander set Newcastle back £25m, and Burnley have since identified where they’d like to spend that money.

But with near-bottomless funds at their disposal, Newcastle are hotly tipped to continue splashing the cash before the January window slams shut.

They remain strongly linked with Sevilla centre-half Diego Carlos. The Brazilian has been reported to be open to joining the revolution at St. James’ Park and personal terms have already been agreed. At present, it is Sevilla’s lofty demands that are holding up a switch.

Another player who is keen to move to Newcastle in the coming days is Duvan Zapata, according to the Mirror.

Newcastle had been linked with the 30-year-old Colombian earlier this month. The Daily Record claimed a £25m bid had been lodged, though that fell some way short of Atalanta’s valuation of around £10m more.

Newcastle reignite Zapata interest; player wants move

But per the Mirror, Newcastle are ready to reignite their interest and give their front line a clinical edge.

They report Newcastle are ‘stepping up attempts’ to land Zapata in a ‘loan-to-buy’ deal.

Atalanta value the hitman at £34m and would command an £8m loan fee. If sanctioned, the total cost of fees would be £42m if the buy option was later triggered.

From the player’s perspective, Zapata is stated to ‘want to join the Geordies’. Toon officials are now declared to be working hard to make the deal happen.

Zapata has been simply superb since moving to Atalanta initially on loan in 2018. The Colombian has notched 78 goals in 152 appearances for the club across all competitions.

A further 38 assists have been provided, and Zapata is very much what Newcastle need – a player for the right here and now.

Newcastle tipped for Lingard breakthrough

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard will move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window, according to one pundit.

Lingard, 29, is currently stagnating at Manchester United. Promised more game time by former Red Devils chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has warmed the bench all season. The arrival of Ralf Rangnick has done nothing to improve his situation, with just 88 minutes of league football in 2021-2022.

Talk of a loan exit despite being six months away from free agency has ramped up. United want any suitor to take the Warrington-born ace on a permanent deal. But the Tynesiders’ precarious position means Lingard favours just a loan move.

Now, former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has weighed in on the proposed move, insisting a Newcastle switch is far more likely than a return to West Ham.

Kenny told Football Insider: “I don’t think he will go to West Ham, why would Man United strengthen a rival?

“So maybe if this goes into the last days of the window we could see some movement. That wouldn’t surprise me, priorities change very quickly in football.

“Lingard would be a brilliant signing and in all honesty, I can see him at Newcastle.”

Chelsea risk complete depletion after transfer update for tempted star Tuchel is relying on

Jorginho and Marcos Alonso celebrate for Chelsea

Marcos Alonso remains a top target for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, despite it being questionable as to whether Chelsea would sanction a transfer.

Chelsea are currently facing a shortage of players in the full-back positions. Alonso is their only natural fit on the left-hand side at present due to Ben Chilwell’s ACL injury. They have been trying to recall Emerson Palmieri from a loan spell at Lyon, but are struggling.

Therefore, the Blues continue to be linked with signing new left-backs in January. But now a further complication has arisen in the shape of Atletico chasing Alonso.

According to Marca, Simeone still dreams of signing the Spaniard, whom he wanted at Atletico three years ago. Back then, the La Liga giants opted to sign Renan Lodi instead.

Now, Simeone is hoping to lure Alonso back to his hometown. The Atletico boss still feels a need to strengthen at left-back and Alonso has the traits he desires.

Marca (whose report is adapted by Sport Witness) claim a transfer is back on the agenda, then. Although whether that would appeal to Chelsea is debatable.

Alonso lost his place as a starter after Chilwell relied, but they are relying on him now until they can recover the Englishman’s services or sign another reinforcement.

But the 31-year-old may be keen to make the move to Madrid. According to Marca, he would welcome the chance to play in La Liga.

Alonso came through the academy ranks at Real Madrid before making one La Liga appearance in 2010. He has never played in the competition since after spending his club career between England and Italy.

Spanish return appealing to Alonso?

Recent reports claimed he was keen to explore a future away from Chelsea to boost his chances of representing Spain at the 2022 World Cup. Alonso has five international caps to his name after debuting in 2018, including two last year.

He may now have hopes of playing club football in his homeland, rather than just representing their national team. And Atletico see him as a perfect fit.

It is not yet clear if they will make a formal move, or how much they may offer. But if anything happens between now and the end of the month, it would heighten Chelsea’s dilemmas.

Atletico have Marcos Alonso alternatives

However, in an update that may allay any fears Chelsea have of losing Alonso, AS claim Atletico are also looking at Reinildo of Lille.

As cited by Football Espana, the report claims there have been discussions between the Spanish and French champions over his transfer.

Reinildo is out of contract with Lille in the summer. So he could be available for a cut-price fee.

AS also list the versatile Daniel Wass of Valencia as a priority option for Atletico.

However, the Mattress Makers are also long-term admirers of Alonso, as Marca remind. Therefore, his future at Chelsea will still be in question unless Atleti sign one of the other options.
