Chelsea risking Tuchel wrath, as suitors line up for ace unlikely to be offered new deal

Chelsea are unlikely to offer Jorginho a contract extension with a trio of clubs now plotting moves for one of Thomas Tuchel’s most trusted assets, per a report.

Tuchel has generally operated with a central midfield pairing since taking charge at Stamford Bridge. N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have been the figures most often entrusted with filling the two spots. However, 90min now report Tuchel could be relieved of Jorginho this summer.

The Italian has come into his own under Tuchel, culminating in his third-placed finish in the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

However, now aged 30, Chelsea seemingly have doubts as to his long-term viability.

90min report that aside from potentially Antonio Rudiger, Jorginho could be the highest profile Chelsea exit this summer.

The midfield metronome is out of contract in 2023 and it’s claimed he is ‘unlikely to be offered a new deal’.

To therefore avoid losing him for free in 14 months’ time, a sale this summer could be sanctioned.

Interest in Jorginho is understandably widespread – particularly from his adopted homeland of Italy.

Serie A giants sizing up Jorginho

The article adds Serie A heavyweights Lazio, AC Milan and Juventus are all interested in securing a deal.

A previous 90min report insisted Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri is ‘desperate’ to reunite with Jorginho. Sarri was the Chelsea boss when Jorginho was brought to Stamford Bridge in 2018.

The Blues are currently unable to buy or sell players given the sanctions placed on the club by the UK Government. However, those restrictions will be lifted once the club’s takeover is completed.

Jorginho has been a key component in Tuchel’s plans and would leave a void that must be filled.

The Blues could turn to the market with blockbuster moves for Declan Rice or Aurelien Tchouameni frequently doing the rounds in the media.

Alternatively, Chelsea could offer Conor Gallagher a chance to impress on the big stage.

The Crystal Palace loanee has excelled at Selhurst Park this season. His all-action displays have put him in contention for England’s World Cup squad in Qatar.

Palace chairman Steve Parish recently reaffirmed his desire to sign Gallagher once again next season.

However, if Jorginho did depart, Gallagher may be more willing to remain at Chelsea given regular minutes would be more guaranteed.

QPR are searching for a new manager this summer following the departure of Mark Warburton.

The 59-year old’s contract expired at the end of the season, with both parties deciding it is best to go their separate ways.

A poor end to the campaign led to the team finishing 11th in the Championship having been fighting for promotion as recently as early March.

Warburton had been in charge of the first team since 2019.

But now the London club is on the lookout for a new manager, with several names being linked with the vacant role.

On Monday it was revealed that QPR are hopeful of opening talks with Wycombe Wanderers’ boss Gareth Ainsworth.

The League One club’s season only came to an end on Saturday, with Wanderers falling just short of promotion by losing 2-0 in the play-off final to Sunderland.

However, Ainsworth has his reputation enhanced regardless, with his achievements at the club over the last 10 years now earning him recognition as a top EFL coach.

The 49-year old played with Rangers from 2003 to 2010, appearing over 140 times for the club.

Oxford United boss Karl Robinson is also under consideration for the position.

The U’s performed well in the third division last season and has impressed those in charge at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Quiz: Can you name which club QPR sold these 23 players to from the last decade?

Sol Campbell was seen as a leading candidate to take over the team, with an interview set for later last week.

The club were unhappy with the negative fan reaction surrounding the former Arsenal’s defender’s links with the role.

However, it is now believed that Ainsworth has moved ahead in the pecking order to replace Warburton for next season.
