Carney Chukwuemeka has arrived in Germany to finalise a permanent move from Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund, Footynaija.com reports.

The 21-year-old midfielder is scheduled to undergo a medical in Dortmund, where he will be joined by Blues teammate Aaron Anselmino, who is set to join the Bundesliga side on loan.

Chukwuemeka, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Dortmund last season, has convinced the club to make his stay permanent.

Reports suggest the transfer is valued at around €25 million, including add-ons, with Chelsea securing a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

The switch offers Chukwuemeka a clear pathway to regular first-team football, something he has struggled to achieve at Stamford Bridge. His technical ability, composure in possession, and adaptability in midfield were key factors in Dortmund’s decision to bring him back.

For Chelsea, the sale is part of a broader summer clear-out, with outgoing transfers now exceeding £270 million. The move also helps the club balance its books in line with UEFA’s financial regulations. Dortmund, meanwhile, view Chukwuemeka as a direct reinforcement after losing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to Chelsea in a €65 million deal earlier in the window.

Chukwuemeka’s development has been closely followed in England, where he was part of the U19 side that lifted the 2022 UEFA European Championship, earning recognition in the Team of the Tournament.

Eligible to represent England, Nigeria, or Austria at senior level, he is seen as one of the most versatile young midfielders in European football.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly a big fan of Chukwuemeka but he is yet to invite the youngster for any national team assignment.
