The Special Adviser on Federal Projects Implementation to the Governor of Kogi State, Chief Emmanuel Obasi, has commended the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA, following the approval by the Federal Government for the reconstruction of the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway.
Chief Obasi made the commendation to the Governor on Thursday, noting that the approval was granted by the Federal Executive Council chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the approval covers the total reconstruction of the 86-kilometre deplorable sections of the Abuja–Lokoja Highway that had remained in poor condition for years. He disclosed that the project would be handled by multiple contractors, including Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Chief Obasi further stated that the development represents a major step towards addressing infrastructure challenges along the corridor, which has for years affected transportation, commerce and safety for road users.
He noted that the approval followed engagement and coordination with federal authorities by Gov Ododo, including the submission of the road project to the Federal Executive Council by the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
The Special Adviser explained that the Abuja–Lokoja Highway serves as a strategic national route linking several regions of the country and that its reconstruction is expected to improve road safety, enhance travel efficiency and support economic activities within Kogi State and neighbouring states.
Obasi further stated that the approval aligns with the infrastructure development agenda of the current federal administration and reflects continued collaboration between the state and federal governments.
He also commended Gov Ododo for sustained engagement with the Federal Government on other federal infrastructure within Kogi State that require attention believing that his efforts will materialize in due time. These include the Itobe–Ajaokuta–Okene Federal Road, the Lokoja–Shintaku Bridge, the Lokoja–Shintaku–Dekina–Anyigba Road, as well as the Kabba–Ilorin and Kabba–Omuo–Ekiti Federal Roads.
According to him, rehabilitation of these routes would strengthen transportation networks in the state and support trade and movement across the region.
Obasi added that his office would continue to support the state government’s efforts by ensuring that federal government projects in the State are carried out according to design and specifications.
