Nearly three years after last being seen in the franchise, Chris Hemsworth will officially return for Extraction 3.
With production having recently wrapped on the franchise’s spinoff series, Netflix has now confirmed that Hemsworth will be back as Tyler Rake for Extraction 3. In addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe vet, the streamer has also confirmed that the action threequel will see Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani reprising their roles and Sam Hargrave returning as director.
Per Deadline, the film, which is being penned by David Weil instead of franchise vet Joe Russo, is set to begin filming in the summer. Exact details regarding what the story will entail are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected to be another action-packed adventure for Rake. AGBO Chief Creative Officer Angela Russo-Otstot wrote the following statement announcing the new film:

It is also our privilege to continue the creative collaboration with Sam Hargrave, Chris Hemsworth, and this outstanding team who have built a stellar action franchise that has proven itself a true standout for audiences around the globe.
There have been rumblings about Extraction 3 going into development as far back as the end of Extraction 2, which was released on Netflix in 2023. In August 2025, Hemsworth revealed intentions for a sequel, with the movie’s production dependent on getting the schedules of its stars to align. According to Netflix, this will be happening when summer arrives.
The Extraction movies have been a key success for Netflix over the last several years. The first movie, released in 2020, quickly became the most-watched film in Netflix history at the time, while its 2023 sequel was a much bigger critical hit. This makes it unsurprising Netflix is pursuing another movie in the franchise, even if Joe Russo is no longer writing.
However, the third installment will see Joe and Anthony Russo attached as producers through AGBO, alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa. Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson produce for Wild State, while Hargrave, Eric Gitter, Patrick Newall, and Peter Schwerin also produce. Steven V. Scavelli serves as an executive producer.
Extraction 3‘s announcement comes as Netflix charts the course for a massive expansion to the budding action franchise. Tygo, a spinoff movie set in South Korea starring Don Lee, Lee Jin-wook, and Lalisa Manobal, is currently filming. Production has also finished on Mercenary: An Extraction Series, with Omar Sy taking the lead role.
As a continuation of the action franchise, Extraction 3 is poised to continue cementing the series as an important part of Netflix’s action movie legacy. The films have performed well on the platform, making it reasonable for another to be produced. The summer start date is because of Hemsworth’s work on Kockroach, which begins filming later in April 2026.
The Extraction movies are some of Hemsworth’s most notable action films, both because of the stories they tell and the high-octane sequences they provide. It’s why the movies have become such an important part of the streaming service’s lineup, and why its current expansion still needs the start that began it all front-and-center.
Although the storyline for Extraction 3 remains unknown, Hemsworth, Elba, and Farahani are poised to bring to life another action-packed mission for their characters. Even without Russo writing the script, Weil’s take on the franchise is likely to continue its golden streak of success as Tyler Rake embarks upon yet another dangerous quest.
