Former presidential adviser, Reuben Abati, has warned the Federal Government that the United States is moving swiftly on the issue of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Speaking on Arise Television, Abati advised the government to go beyond traditional diplomacy.
He was reacting to the speeches of American rapper, Nicki Minaj and former Canadian lawmaker, Goldie Ghamari.
Recall that Nicki Minaj had previously called out Nigerian leaders for doing little or nothing to stop the killing of Christians in the country.
“The American government seems to be ahead in this game because there is something we call traditional diplomacy and modern diplomacy.
“Traditional diplomacy is government to government. A lot of secrecy and formality. The Americans have gone ahead in labeling Nigeria to what is called modern diplomacy.
“Americans are bringing personalities like Ghamari from Canada and Nicki Minaj from America. They have expanded the scope. If America takes one step, Nigeria should also go beyond denial and be reactive to also play the game,” Abati said.
Abati had earlier slammed Nicki Minaj over her scheduled speech on Christian genocide at the United Nations.
He suggested that Nigeria should also have Tiwa Savage appear on national television to defend the country at the same time Nicki Minaj would be speaking on Tuesday.
He said, “Nicki Minaj said she wants Americans where there is religious freedom. My response was that, look, Nicki Minaj is a rapper from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She should just concentrate on her Anaconda music, her rap music, and what is it called… Barbs.
“As far as I’m concerned, she’s chasing clout, even if she has been invited to this forum by a White House advisor and also by Michael Waltz.
“I think what we should do, since now the Americans are adding influencers and all of that, is that we also have influencers here. If I were to advise on strategy, by that time, when Nicki Minaj is speaking, we should put Tiwa Savage on national television for her to express patriotic opinions about her country.
“To say whatever she wants to say, because it’s not a matter for people chasing clout, looking for influence and all that.
“We can also have Tiwa Savage or other people defend their country, whatever their belief is.”
