Daniel Okoh, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), says that Christians in Nigeria are celebrating a Christmas free from attacks on churches for the first time in several years.
Okoh spoke with journalists on Friday after leading a team of Christian leaders to President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos residence for a courtesy visit.
He explained that the visit aimed to convey appreciation to President Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, for their efforts in supporting Nigerians and promoting national development.
“This visit by the leaders of the Christians Association of Nigeria to the home of President Bola Tinubu and his wife, the mother of the nation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is to appreciate them for what they are doing, providing for the poor and being committed to moving Nigeria forward,” Okoh said.
He highlighted the couple’s recent actions to ensure peace across the nation, describing them as significant steps in improving the safety of all Nigerians.
“And of course, the recent efforts they are making to ensure every Nigerian lives in peace in this country,” Okoh added.
Okoh noted that this Christmas stands out because it was the first in many years without any reports of church attacks disturbing worshippers.
“It is something that we are so happy about. I can tell you; this Christmas happens to be the first in many years that we were not woken up to phone calls to say this church was attacked and it is a testimony that we must share,” he said.
He expressed hope that the peaceful celebrations would continue in the years ahead.
The CAN president concluded by affirming the association’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with President Tinubu for Nigeria’s growth and development.
