The coalition of opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.

The decision was announced on Thursday in Abuja after a high-level meeting of party leaders, with the group disassociating itself from the yet-to-be-registered All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

National Publicity Secretary of the coalition, Bolaji Abdullahi, told reporters that the leaders had unanimously agreed to end every arrangement connected to ADA.

“The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association,” Abdullahi declared.

The ADC, now serving as the coalition’s platform, also directed prominent figures aligned with the movement, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Senator Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to resign from their current parties and “come on board fully.”

Among those present at the Abuja meeting were National Chairman, David Mark; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; and former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.

On the coalition’s roadmap to 2027, Abdullahi revealed that all presidential aspirants within the bloc had signed on to support whoever emerges victorious at the primaries.

“All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primaries election,” he said.

He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) would soon announce dates for governorship primaries in Osun and Ekiti states ahead of their off-cycle elections.
