Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said forming a strong political coalition remains the most viable strategy to unseat the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2027.
Kalu, who is also the National Coordinator of the PDP Coalition (PDPCO), stated this in a statement.
He decried the current state of the nation, citing worsening hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship as signs that Nigeria is in deep distress.
He said: “The truth is that Nigeria is truly in trouble under this government. There is a spate of violent killings and economic dilapidation across the country.”
He accused President Tinubu’s administration of failing to address the unrelenting violence in Benue and Enugu States, blaming Fulani cattle breeders for repeated and unprovoked attacks.
“Currently, Benue State is helplessly under the siege of Fulani cattle rustlers as it continues to suffer unprovoked and mindless attacks in the hands of these unrepentant killers,” he said.
Kalu, who also heads the ECK Foundation and is an aspirant for the Abia North senatorial seat, criticized the Federal Government’s borrowing habits, arguing that funds from foreign loans have not translated into meaningful infrastructure or social investment.
“It is really infuriating that Nigerians are helplessly wretched while the government keeps borrowing to spend frivolously,” he said.
He noted that infrastructure remains a key indicator of national progress but lamented that Nigeria was regressing under the current leadership.
“So, how then will the APC convince us that it is qualified to salvage Nigeria from poverty to a technologically advanced nation?” he asked.
According to him, the only credible alternative is a coalition of opposition forces determined to rescue Nigeria from what he described as a “governance collapse”.
“Like a seed planted in a farm, the coalition remains the only stake capable of erecting the stem of unseating APC in 2027,” he said.
