Nigerian singer Skales has shared details of his early life, describing the challenges he faced growing up in Kaduna.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Shake Body crooner revealed that he once lived in a simple hut with his late mother and had very few comforts.
He spoke on A TownHall Different Podcast, hosted by Cera.
According to the singer, his family’s early life was marked by scarcity, and they often slept on mats spread directly on the floor.
They later moved into a small boys’ quarters, but life remained modest. Skales’ mother worked as a teacher, and the family’s limited means shaped his upbringing.
Skales also mentioned that he did not have a television during his childhood.
He said: “My mum was a teacher, and we didn’t have much. We lived in a hut before moving to a BQ. We slept on the floor with mats and my mom would spread a wrapper on the floor and sleep. Coming from that kind of background to where I am today is just crazy.”
His first real experience with TV came only after signing with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment record label.
The singer recalled being amazed when he finally had a TV of his own in his room.
“The first time I saw TV was when EME signed me. Like I had my own TV in my room. I used to switch it on and off in amazement,” he joked.
