Court Enforces Judgment In Taylor Family’s Favor Despite Govt Obstruction – Counsel Declares, ‘No Govt Is Above The Law’

Olalekan F. Ojo

Olalekan F. Ojo, Managing Partner of Platinum & Taylor Hill LP and Counsel to the Taylor Family, called on the Lagos State Government to respect the rule of law and cease all obstruction of justice in the long-standing land dispute involving the E.J. Alex Kehinde Taylor Family. He said this in a press conference held earlier today.

The Taylor Family, the lawful owners of the property situated at Plots 412/420 Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, Abule Egba, Lagos, has been embroiled in a legal battle with the Lagos State Government for years. The land, a century-old family legacy, was allegedly illegally occupied by the government without adequate compensation as required by law.

In December 2019, Honorable Justice O.A. Ogala delivered a binding Consent Judgment recognizing the Taylor Family as the rightful owners of the property. However, the Lagos State Government allegedly refused to comply with the judgment, engaging in delays, bureaucratic obstruction, and illegal revocation of the land title to frustrate justice.

Mr. Ojo announced that the judgment has now been fully enforced by the Sheriffs of the Court, affirming the Taylor Family’s rightful ownership. “This enforcement is a testament to the strength and independence of the judiciary, which has stood firm against executive interference,” he stated.

With the judgment enforced, Mr. Ojo urged the Lagos State Government to respect the rule of law and refrain from further interference. He outlined the following demands:

  1. The government must accept the full enforcement of the judgment and cease all obstruction.
  2. It must refrain from any further encroachment or unlawful actions against the Taylor Family.
  3. It must demonstrate respect for judicial authority by upholding property rights and the principles of justice.

Mr. Ojo emphasized that this case is no longer just about the Taylor Family but a defining test for justice, accountability, and the protection of private property rights in Nigeria. “A government that ignores court rulings sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the rights of all citizens,” he warned.

He further stated, “Let this enforcement serve as a clear message: No government is above the law. Court judgments must be obeyed and enforced without interference. Judicial integrity remains the foundation of democracy and must never be undermined.”

Mr. Ojo expressed gratitude to the Nigerian judiciary for its unwavering commitment to upholding justice in this case. “This victory transcends the interests of the Taylor Family. It stands as a beacon of hope for every Nigerian who believes in the principles of fairness, equity, and the supremacy of the law,” he said.

He also commended the press for its role in holding those in power accountable and ensuring transparency. “This moment is a testament to the resilience of our institutions and the power of the people to demand and achieve justice,” he concluded.

The press conference ended with a call for the Lagos State Government to act with honor and integrity by respecting the enforcement of the judgment.
