Veteran comedian, Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, has been evicted from his property in Victoria Island, Lagos State, following a court order.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ali Baba, alongside his company, XQZMOI TV, was ejected after a writ of possession signed by the Federal High Court on August 15, 2025.
The property was initially sold to the comedian for ₦220 million in 2021 by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which claimed it was liquidating assets to recover debts owed by Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited.
But in his ruling of July 31, 2025, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa faulted AMCON for failing to prove the existence of the alleged debt.
The judge dismissed the corporation’s case, ordered that the property be returned to its original owner, and imposed ₦500m damages on AMCON.
Naijaonpoint learnt that Ali Baba, who had been a tenant of the property’s original owner before AMCON’s intervention, purchased the building while litigation over its ownership was still ongoing.
Court documents indicated that the transaction was carried out despite an existing preservation order restraining any transfer of the disputed asset.
