A Kano Magistrates’ Court has remanded Auwal Adam in a correctional facility over the alleged killing of his friend following a disagreement concerning a tricycle accessory.
Adam was brought before Magistrate Sakina Aminu Yusuf by the police and charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. He, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution lawyer, A.I. Buhari, requested an adjournment to enable the authorities obtain legal advice from the government before proceeding with the case.
Granting the application, the magistrate ordered that Adam remain in custody and fixed September 8, 2026, for further proceedings.
The police alleged that Adam was not acting alone, claiming that some of his associates, who have yet to be apprehended, were also linked to the incident.
The deceased was identified as Aliyu Abubakar Badawa, reportedly a friend of the defendant.
According to the police account, the dispute allegedly began over the cover of a tricycle tyre. The tricycle is a popular means of commercial transportation in Kano, commonly called Adaidaita Sahu.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter until September 8 for continuation of the proceedings.
