A High Court sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.
Presiding over the case, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide, having established beyond reasonable doubt that he killed and dismembered the late corps member.
The offense contravenes Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria and carries the death penalty.
Ajayi was charged with a single count of culpable homicide following a protracted trial that drew widespread public attention.
The gruesome killing of Adaidu, who was serving her nation under the NYSC scheme, sparked outrage across the country and renewed calls for better protection of youth corps members.
