A chilling confession stunned the Polokwane High Court when William Manku openly admitted his role in the brutal killing of his former wife Gladys Manku and her mother Lettie Maphothoma.

The tragic murders happened in May 2021 at their home in Makgophong Village Limpopo and shocked the nation. Gladys was the mother of actress Amanda Manku who is known for her role in Skeem Saam.
In his statement Manku said he decided to confess to protect his current girlfriend who was arrested in 2024. He told the court she had no knowledge of the plan and should not be punished.
He revealed that he discussed his family problems with several men and later agreed to have his former mother in law killed. The plan however led to both women losing their lives.
Legal experts say the confession could strongly affect sentencing as the trial continues.
