Things are getting confrontational between Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors in the latest look at the upcoming sports drama, Creed III. Released courtesy of Total Film, the image finds Jordan’s Adonis taking Majors’ new character, Damian “Dame” Anderson, to task. No doubt this is just the beginning of the anger that will eventually explode in an exchange of fists. Check out the new image from Creed III below.

Creed III picks up five years after the events of Creed II and, after dominating the boxing world, Adonis “Donnie” Creed has since been thriving in both his career and family life. But when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian “Dame” Anderson, resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Donnie must put his future on the line to battle Dame – a fighter with nothing to lose.

Creed III is directed by Michael B. Jordan, in his feature film debut, with a screenplay by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin from a story they co-wrote with Ryan Coogler. The sequel stars Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, and Creed 2 star Florian Munteanu, as well as Selenis Leyva, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Spence Moore II, Mila Davis-Kent, and Canelo Álvarez.

While Adonis Creed has faced tough opponents so far in the franchise, it certainly looks and sounds like Majors’ Dame will be his most difficult challenge yet. Tethered to Creed and his troubled past, actor Jonathan Majors revealed some insight into how he will bring the character to life, and how his own life has reflected the experiences of the character.

“Although I was never incarcerated, I did deal with juvenile detention, in-school suspension, expulsions…all the way up until adulthood,” Majors, who found himself in trouble for fighting and shoplifting in his youth, explained. “So I understood that, you know? But my big connection to it was the fact that the man who raised me was an ex-con, as gross as the word is. He had been incarcerated for 15 years before we found each other. I believe that his sole purpose in my life was to get me to adulthood. My mother and him parted ways, but he still remained… I mean, he’s my stepfather. To this day, I see him as my stepdad, you know? So I understood, secondhand, the incarcerated mind. I witnessed it, what that development is.”

Not only has Majors delved deep into the mind of Dame, he and first time director Michael B. Jordan have also put a lot of thought into how he will handle himself in the ring. “That’s probably what me and Mike talked the most about,” Majors said. “How is he going to fight? He’s quite unorthodox. It’s a mixture of prison survival and ancient pugilism. He’s a very smart fighter. Though he’s strong and visceral, he’s intelligent.”

Creed III is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 3, 2023.
