The Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi has called for collaboration between his Ministry and stakeholders in the Northcentral part of Nigeria to ease the delivery of the 477-kilometer superhighway from Cross River to Abuja. At an engagement with stakeholders from Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa states in Lafia, the Nasarawa capital, on the alignment of the super highway which is part of the Renewed Hope Legacy Project, Umahi said the investment on the project is capable of catalysing the nation’s economic resuscitation process.
“There are a lot of benefits because of these three superhighways. I want to assure you that this beyond road construction but an investment. This is because it is a catalyst that is going to revive the entire economy of the country,” Umahi said at the event.
He said the proposed highway which will begin from Cross River will traverse Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa, is a legacy project of the current administration.
He said , when completed, the road will bring manifold benefits to the nation. Umahi restated the government’s commitment to accomplishing the Lagos-Ondo-Edo-Delta-Bayelsa-Rivers-Akwa Ibom-Cross River as well as the Sokoto-Kebbi-Niger-Kwara-Oyo-Ogun-Badagry expressways.
The Minister informed the gathering that all road projects will be reinforced with concrete to ensure that they attain a lifespan of 50 years before any maintenance activity could be required.

“The benefits of these three legacy projects cannot be overemphasized. It is going to be done in concrete. Sokoto to Badagry has 53 dams in that section. Any road properly constructed on concrete, for the next fifty years, you will not touch it. Lagos to Calabar has a lot of potential. we are aiming at finish in the first phase by may next year and we will be tolling it immediately,” he announced.
The governors of the region, especially of Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue as well as other stakeholders, thanked President Bola Tinubu for conceiving the idea of Renewed Hope Legacy project.
Speaking through Governor Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa State, who is also the Chairman of the Northcentral Governors Forum commended the Federal government for embarking on these capital projects that have been in the offing for decades.
He assured of the zone’s cooperation towards the success of the project. “Let me sincerely appreciate Mr. President for this iconic project. Iconic in the sense that this is a project that has been in the pipeline before some of us were born. Indeed, today, we are seeing the reality of these road projects,” he said.
He reiterated the key importance of providing the Federal government the cooperation required for the project to be accomplished. The Cross River Abuja superhighway will be fused to the Lagos- Calabar coastal highway.
