The Cross River State Government has directed all civil and public servants to proceed on a 20-day end-of-year leave to enable them to participate fully in Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Naijaonpoint reports that the directive was contained in a circular referenced GO/HOS/4/Vol.III/277, issued by the Head of Service, Mr Orok Okon, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to the circular, workers, except those handling essential duties, are to proceed on leave from December 15, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
The circular reads, “The approval is to enable Civil/Public Servants to participate in the Christmas festivities within the State fully.
“However, officers on essential duties are hereby exempted from this leave and are expected to remain at their duty posts to ensure the continuous delivery of critical public services.
“Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments are requested to bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all staff and ensure strict compliance.”
Naijaonpoint learnt that the biggest street party in Africa, Carnival Calabar, is part of the activities put in place to celebrate Christmas in the state.
This year’s carnival is the 20th edition of the annual street party that was established by the Donald Duke administration in 2005.
