After the fan who attacked Ariana Grande at the Wicked: For Good premiere, Cynthia Erivo is opening up about the horrific encounter. During the Singapore premiere on November 13, 2025, a major moment that overshadowed the event was when Grande was attacked by an attendee, as Erivo was seen in a video protecting her from the intruder.

During a recent screening of the film at the Screen Actors Guild at the Television Academy (via Entertainment Weekly), Erivo finally spoke about the terrible attack that happened to Grande. Erivo gave the following statement about what happened at the premiere:

“What’s even more wonderful is the fact that there are other people who have seen themselves in this movie, in that character, and also now see themselves and feel safe. That, for me, is the pinnacle of what I could ever wish for from any piece of work I have ever done. And I am so glad that in order to do it, I had to look into the eyes of this person beside me. And we have come through some s–t. We have come through some stuff in our lives, in our daily workings. I mean, f—, even this last week. Let’s be honest, for f—‘s sakes, we’ve had to really deal with some stuff, and this movie has allowed us to really grow as people, as friends, as sisters, as artists, as actresses.”

The attacker has been identified as Johnson Wen, who is infamous for showing up at big media events where he will pull inappropriate stunts with various actors and talent. According to BBC, he was charged on Friday, November 14, with being a public nuisance, as they report “he intends to plead guilty.”
