Daredevil is getting a reset at Marvel Comics, inaugurating a new era which promises “huge surprises and fresh ideas” for the classic character, including new villains, and a new role in the Marvel Universe. After being put through hell, literally, by Marvel over the past few years, this may be exactly the return to form Matt Murdoch needs.
AIPT revealed the first look at Daredevil #1 from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Lee Garbett, while teasing the set-up for the new series.
In his civilian life, Matt Murdoch will have to adapt to a new job. Meanwhile, Daredevil must deal with an unfamiliar villain, Omen, who makes their Marvel Comics debut.

Daredevil Volume 8 has been ongoing since 2023. The series found Matt Murdoch, having previously been killed off, resurrected as a priest in his familiar Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, and pitted him against actual demons. The series served to continue the increasingly supernatural tilt of the hero’s lore. Now, Marvel seems ready to reset Daredevil to a more realistic style of superhero.
Much of the details of the upcoming Daredevil Volume 9 remain to be revealed, but Marvel has confirmed two major aspects of the new series. First, Matt Murdoch is leaving behind his days as a priest and demon-fighter in order to become a law school professor. At the same time, as Daredevil, he will face off against a new villain named Omen.
There have been some strong moments over the last several years of Daredevil’s contemporary Marvel history, but many fans of the iconic hero have been advocating for a “back to basics” approach to the character. That seems to be exactly what the publisher is offering with its 2026 relaunch of Daredevil.

According to artist Lee Garbett, the series evokes an earlier era of Daredevil, while also pushing the franchise forward. Garbett stated:
[The new series is] classic DD at its core — but with huge surprises and fresh ideas.
It seems Marvel is dialing back the “epic” good vs. evil struggle Matt Murdoch has been embroiled in for years now, in order to tell a more character-focused story. But the book’s creative team is also teasing big swings.
In other words, Daredevil fans should mark March 2026 on their calendars, as it officially represents the start of a new era for the hero, one that promises to offer a throwback to the character’s early success. At the same time, it may very well prove to be the most ambitious era of Daredevil canon yet.
