In a preview of DC K.O. #1 by Scott Snyder, Javi Fernández, and Xermánico, Superman is having a quiet game night with his wife and two of his closest allies, Batman and Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, the serenity of the evening is disturbed when the darkness is replaced by an ominous red glow, heralding the return of their old enemy, Darkseid.
Darkseid isn’t just bigger and stronger, he’s overflowing with cosmic might (called a “universe of power given form”). He’s not here to conquer, but to assimilate, as everything Darkseid comes into contact with becomes part of him. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman head straight into battle, but each of them feel a disturbing uncertainty heading into their next battle.

Darkseid’s physical body was destroyed in last year’s DC All In Special, but his energy settled on in the Absolute Universe, where he shaped the world to reflect him and his dark ideals. Darkseid was able to heal and grow stronger in a world overflowing with Omega Energy, eventually culminating in his creation of his personal army, the Darkseid Legion.
This is the first time Darkseid has really been seen in action since his ‘death’ and he’s far more powerful than ever. He’s essentially become the god of the Absolute Universe, giving him power that DC’s strongest heroes (yes, even Superman) could only imagine. The Justice League’s uncertainty is warranted as they’ve never fought Darkseid while he possessed such power.

The Justice League is going to need more firepower to win this time. Darkseid is the living avatar of an entire universe. While the fighting tournament of DC K.O. promises to give its winner the power to face the New God, whoever wins is going to have to go all out if they want to save the DC Universe.
