David Beckham is addressing family tension without naming names. During a Jan. 20 appearance on Squawk Box, the former soccer star reflected on the power of social media just days after his son, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, shared a lengthy post criticizing his parents.

“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” Beckham said. “The bad we’ve talked about with what kids can access these days, it can be dangerous.”

He added that he tries to encourage responsible use of platforms, noting that he has leveraged his following to support UNICEF and raise awareness about children around the world.

Beckham, who shares four children with wife Victoria Beckham, went on to say, “They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes,” he said. “That is how they learn.”

His comments come after Brooklyn posted a series of Instagram stories saying he does “not want to reconcile with my family,” accusing his parents of repeatedly disrespecting his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. He alleged past conflicts surrounding their wedding and claimed he had stayed silent for years.

Beckham did not directly respond to the allegations.

“You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well,” he said.
