After Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El made her debut in Superman this summer, Superman himself will be returning in summer 2026’s Supergirl movie. Following James Gunn’s hit 2025 film, it wasn’t clear whether Clark Kent would be appearing alongside his cousin Kara in her big DCU entry, but Alcock and director Craig Gillespie have now confirmed Superman’s involvement in Supergirl‘s story.
On December 7, I attended DC Studios’ Global Virtual Teaser Trailer Launch for Supergirl on behalf of ScreenRant at CCXP in Brazil, which included an exclusive Q&A with Milly Alcock and Craig Gillespie moderated by James Gunn. After showing Supergirl‘s trailer, Alcock discussed what stepping onto the set of the 2026 movie was like, quickly revealing that her first day of filming included Superman:
Milly Alcock: And then stepping onto the set of Supergirl. What was her first day? Oh, my God. It was with freaking-
Craig Gillespie: It was with Superman.
Milly Alcock: It was with Superman.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah. And you weren’t in the suit.
Milly Alcock: And I wasn’t in the suit and I was speaking-
Craig Gillespie: A different language.
Milly Alcock: … a different language. Yeah, that day was really hard. It was two degrees.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah, you jumped right in the deep end.
Milly Alcock: Yeah, that was a hard day.
Craig Gillespie: The whole scene was in Kryptonian.
Milly Alcock: The whole scene was. Yeah.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah, Kryptonian.
Milly Alcock: Yeah.
Craig Gillespie: For you.
Milly Alcock: For me.
Though the pair don’t mention how extensive Clark Kent actor David Corenswet’s appearance will be, it’s now clear that Superman will factor into Supergirl‘s story for at least one scene with a Kryptonian focus. Alcock and Gillespie elaborated that Kara Zor-El is speaking entirely in the Kryptonian language for that scene. However, with both emphasizing that the sequence was all in Kryptonian for Alcock, in particular, it’s unclear whether Superman will be speaking the language as well.
Since the destruction of Krypton plays an integral role in Supergirl‘s narrative and Kara’s arc over the course of the 2026 movie, it’s possible that Superman’s return will involve the cousins diving deeper into their history and different relationships with the fallen planet. Performing that scene entirely in a different language should also be familiar to Alcock, who spent several extensive scenes of House of the Dragon speaking the fictional High Valyrian language.
With Alcock clarifying that she wasn’t wearing Supergirl’s suit on her first day of filming with Superman, it’s possible that Clark Kent comes to visit her on one of the many planets she’s traveling to throughout the movie. Alcock noted in the Q&A that Kara doesn’t embrace becoming Supergirl until the end of the movie, with Gillespie also revealing that the entire film is set in outer space, which may mean Superman finds her on a planet earlier into her journey.
Considering Milly Alcock’s Supergirl made her DCU debut at the end of Superman with a brief cameo, it makes sense that Superman would return the favor by having a small appearance earlier in Supergirl. With Supergirl‘s tone venturing into much darker themes than Superman, we may also see Clark in a different light than his 2025 movie.
When Supergirl premieres on June 26, 2026 in theaters, the Milly Alcock-led movie will pave the way for the DCU’s future with the likes of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow. Just like how Lex Luthor’s Peacemaker season 2 cameo helped set up the sequel’s story, Superman’s Supergirl appearance is expected to hold more hints as to what’s in store for the titular character in Man of Tomorrow.
