Sodimu made this remark during a discussion with actress Shaffy Bello on Korty’s show, where they debated Nigerian artists who have reached legendary and globally impactful status, similar to that of the late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
According to Sodimu, Nigeria’s “Big Three” — Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy — have all achieved international recognition, wealth, and influence, qualifying them as legends in their own right. However, he noted a clear distinction when it comes to political appeal and mass connection.
“Burna Boy has conquered the stage and he’s excellent live. Wizkid is special,” Sodimu stated. “But Davido exceeds music. If Davido were to run for governor today, he would win without a doubt. I don’t believe Burna Boy could win a governorship election.”
He elaborated that Davido’s influence extends beyond music, highlighting his broad appeal, personal connections, and public presence, which he believes translate into significant political capital.
While Shaffy Bello chose not to take a stance on the comparison, she agreed that Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy have already achieved legendary status and could continue to do even more in the coming years.
Sodimu concluded by praising the artists for enhancing Nigeria’s global image, stating that Nigerians “live vicariously through them” and that they have already made the country proud.
