Those who have been following DC Comics know that a new era for Wonder Woman began with the launch of the Darkseid-created Absolute Universe. While fans have seen many aspects of the Amazon princess’s lore reimagined, there is one 83-year-old staple that this version of Wonder Woman is leaving behind.
Absolute Wonder Woman writer Kelly Thompson recently appeared for a live interview with Splash Pages Comic Book Club on YouTube. During the discussion, she talked about all things Absolute Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey, two of her most recent DC titles.
When the topic of Diana’s iconic Invisible Jet came up, Thompson made it clear fans shouldn’t expect it to appear in the Absolute Wonder Woman narrative: “I don’t like the invisible plane, don’t expect to see it.”

For those following Absolute Wonder Woman, they may recall that the Trident of Poseidon recently debuted, taking on an almost mirage-like appearance, similar to how the Invisible Plane is often depicted artistically in comics. This visual led fans to speculate that the Trident in Absolute WW might be connected to the Invisible Jet.
However, Thompson quickly ruled out the theory, clearly stating that she doesn’t like the Invisible Plane and fans shouldn’t expect it to appear in the narrative. Given that it’s such an iconic piece of Wonder Woman lore, some readers will undoubtedly be disappointed that the jet won’t be entering the Absolute Universe.
Many others, however, will likely be happy the Invisible Jet isn’t included. It has often felt out of place in relation to Diana’s mythical origins. ...-crisis version, in particular, was fantastical, evolving from alien morphing tech to a floating Wonderdome base and even aiding in building New Themyscira.

The Invisible Jet first appeared in Sensation Comics #1 (1942) and has remained one of Wonder Woman’s most enduring lore elements. Tom King’s ongoing Wonder Woman run even features the invisible plane, solidifying its presence in the current mainstream continuity. Its absence in the Absolute Universe helps further differentiate this version of Diana from her mainstream counterpart.
Beyond Thompson’s personal preference, Absolute Diana already has a formidable ride: her undead Pegasus, which doubles as a weapon. With such a powerful and versatile mode of transport, there is little need for the Invisible Jet, as Absolute Wonder Woman already has a vehicle capable of both travel and combat.
