Batman writer and DC icon Scott Snyder has proposed a possible way to rectify comic book solicitations from spoiling an issue’s content matter in the future. Indeed, an age-old problem with upcoming comic book solicits and previews has been that they naturally spoil story, character, or cover art details months before they actually reach store shelves.

Speaking directly to Absolute Batman’s readership in a thread on Twitter/X, Scott Snyder suggests that covers could be redacted for a period of time, allowing readers the chance to read the preceding issue first so that they won’t be spoiled by the subsequent issue’s cover in a solicit. If so, the future of solicits, at least with the Absolute Batman book, could look quite different.

Absolute Batman Wants to Avoid Solicit Spoilers

Addressing how Absolute Batman’s comic book issue covers have been decidedly spoiler-rich, Scott Snyder is reaching out to gauge readers’ thoughts on future solicit covers being redacted if they contain a spoiler, such as a character who is revealed in a previous, unreleased issue. Several of the next handful of Absolute Batman issue covers are teased to need a redaction from issue #17 to issue #20. If nothing else, this demonstrates how massively impactful these upcoming issues may be for the story as a whole.

Scott Snyder’s suggestion would have the covers revealed, say, on a Friday, when the cut-off date is that Monday, in order for there to still be plenty of time for the order.

Redacted Solicit Covers Could Be a Great Solution

This seems like a great way for Batman solicits that are months ahead to not spoil big reveals or characters—a common gripe that has been an inevitable byproduct of solicitations. That said, it’d supposedly be impossible for certain things not to be spoiled in solicit preview descriptions of Absolute Batman’s story, and it’ll be interesting to see if this will be a successful approach, assuming DC pushes for it and that readers voice their approval of it.
