The Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) and Chairman of the Special Investigative Panel, Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye, is expected to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other service chiefs in the coming days to decide the next steps in the probe into the alleged attempted coup by some military officers.
According to security sources who spoke with Premium Times, the meeting will review the panel’s preliminary findings and determine the framework for trials and disciplinary actions.
“The president will also be briefed,” one source confirmed, adding that President Bola Tinubu is closely monitoring the developments and has requested detailed updates on the matter.
Sources said military officers implicated in the alleged coup will first face court martials before possible civil proceedings, while civilian collaborators will be prosecuted in civil courts.

Earlier reports by Premium Times revealed that 16 top military officers had been arrested in connection with the failed coup attempt, following intelligence reports that they were holding secret meetings and plotting to overthrow the government.
Among those in custody are 14 officers from the Nigerian Army, one from the Navy, and one from the Air Force. The identities of newly arrested suspects have not yet been made public.
The arrests were made in late September, and investigations have since expanded to include both active-duty and retired personnel suspected of involvement.
Defence Headquarters Set To Speak
Although the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) earlier issued a vague statement about the alleged plot, sources now say military authorities are preparing to release a more detailed update to the public.
“In the days to come, the Defence Headquarters is likely to issue a statement telling Nigerians about the findings from the investigation so far,” one insider said.
