Former presidential aspirant and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, is set to formally join the African Democratic Congress on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
Naijaonpoint reports that Momodu, who has been a close political associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was one of the opposition figures backing efforts to form a broad coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next election cycle.
The planned defection ceremony will take place in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
It is scheduled to hold at the newly opened ADC State Secretariat, where party leaders, supporters, and political stakeholders are expected to gather.
Ahead of the event, Momodu expressed readiness to align with the ADC and described the move as a return to his roots.
He is expected to meet with party elders and leaders from the state, including well-known political figures who have already pitched their tents with the ADC.
Plans are also in place for him to visit his hometown after the event to interact with supporters.
Momodu explained that his decision to join the ADC fits into the wider plan to build a united opposition platform capable of facing the ruling party in 2027.
He said that without unity, opposition parties will struggle to make meaningful impact against an incumbent government.
He also appealed to Nigerians across political lines to place the future of democracy above party loyalty.
According to him, protecting democratic values requires collective effort from citizens and politicians, regardless of their current party affiliation.
Momodu further stated that his move to the ADC is not driven by personal ambition to seek elective office. Rather, he described it as a step taken in what he sees as the national interest, stressing that democracy must be defended to ensure a better future for the country and its people.
