A young man identified as Jeffrey, who worked at an eatery in Oghara, Delta State, has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack.

Jeffrey was reportedly attacked alongside his colleague, Daniel, while the two were returning home from work on a motorcycle on Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 10pm to 11pm in the Otefe area of Oghara, throwing residents into panic.

According to reports, the assailants opened fire on the victims, killing Jeffrey and leaving Daniel with gunshot injuries.

A police source confirmed that the deceased was taken for medical attention but could not survive his injuries, adding that his remains had been deposited at a morgue.

“We received a report that a young man named Jeffrey was killed while heading home from work alongside his friend in Oghara. His friend was also injured in the process,” the source said.

The source added that efforts to save Jeffrey proved unsuccessful, while Daniel was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

The anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, said the victims were riding home from work when they came under attack. It identified Jeffrey as a graduate of Delta State Polytechnic.

The platform also said Daniel graduated from the institution in 2026 and survived the shooting. He was reportedly taken to a hospital outside the immediate area because some hospitals nearby were affected by an ongoing strike.

Jeffrey and Daniel were said to have lived in apartments located close to each other. The motive for the attack and the identities of the suspected cultists remained unclear as of the time of filing the report.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments, while a text message sent to him had not been answered.
