The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, has urged journalists in the state to focus on developmental reporting instead of engaging in reporting abuses.
Emu stated this on Tuesday while declaring open a two-day training workshop for community newspapers in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
He said, “I am a firm believer of community reporting, citizenship engagement, giving feedback and not abuses that will take away the value of reporting.
“As a journalist, report the danger of not paying attention to developing a place and the benefits it will bring to the people.”
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Prince Orhomonokpaye, who is the organiser of the event, thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his assistance in hosting the workshop.
Orhomonokpaye said that the Seminar/workshop training for the Delta State community newspaper publishers was part of the two-year anniversary of the governor.
“The training for the local media in the state is to enhance their reporting skills and to commemorate the governor’s 2nd year anniversary, come May 29th 2025.
“Also, for adequate reporting on the MORE agenda achievements of the Governor Oborevwori-led administration and in order for them to brace up with modern technical skills of reporting and educating the people at the grassroots in our various communities,” he stated.
He said the community newspapers have gradually gained root in the governance of the Delta State, urging the participants to take the opportunity to learn more.
