DJ Quik’s world has been rocked as his son, David Marvin Blake Jr., now stands convicted of second-degree murder in a shocking case that has gripped Southern California.
The verdict stems from a 2022 shooting in Downey, where authorities say Blake opened fire from inside a car during a late-night confrontation. The victim, 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr., was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. Blake was taken into custody the following day.
Prosecutors confirmed that the jury found Blake guilty not only of murder but also of multiple firearm-related allegations, including shooting from a vehicle and causing great bodily injury.

With sentencing set for February 6, he now faces a potential 40 years to life in state prison. His bail was reportedly set at $2 million.
KTLA reports that Blake was serving as a liaison to Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan around the time of the shooting. Galvan, who was ousted from his council seat in 2022, had been embroiled in his own legal challenges.
He faced accusations of election-related misconduct and later admitted to accepting bribes connected to cannabis business permits.
