Feyenoord manager Brian Priske has delivered a pointed message to Liverpool boss Arne Slot, encouraging him to take a gritty approach against Manchester City when the Reds meet Pep Guardiola’s side in a pivotal Premier League encounter this weekend, Soccernet.football reports.

Priske’s remarks came after his Feyenoord side staged a remarkable second-half comeback against City in their Champions League clash at the Etihad.

Despite trailing 3-0 after goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Ilkay Gundogan, the Eredivisie champions clawed their way back to a 3-3 draw with goals from Anis Hadj Moussa, Santiago Gimenez, and David Hancko. The result extended Guardiola’s winless streak to six matches.

Slot, who left Feyenoord for Liverpool in the summer, has overseen a stunning campaign at Anfield, guiding the Reds to the top of the Premier League table with an eight-point lead.

Priske succeeded Slot at Feyenoord and expressed confidence that the former Rotterdam manager would be proud of his old team’s performance.

“I’m sure he’s [Slot] proud,” Priske told AmazonPrimeSport. “As an ex-Feyenoord manager, I’m sure he’s following [results], I know that.

“We’ve definitely done everything we could to help him as well. He had a massive impact on the club over the last three years, he definitely gave me a good start as well, with a good team and Champions League [qualification].

“So I’m really happy that, hopefully, we can help him a bit, and he needs to do the dirty job at the weekend [against Man City].”

Liverpool face City at the Etihad on Sunday, aiming to solidify their title credentials against a City side desperate to halt their poor run of form.
